Rushden and District Community Charity is a fully volunteer-run local charity based on High Street South in Rushden. We run a community-focused charity shop and use 100% of our profits to support people in hardship in Rushden and the surrounding area.

We are a registered charity (charity number 1213340) and everything we do is rooted in the local community – from our volunteers and donors to the people and organisations we support.

Whether you are looking for support, want to donate items or funds, or are interested in volunteering, you are very welcome here.

Volunteers working together in a local community charity shop

Rushden and District Community Charity grew out of a simple idea: that no one in our town should go without the basics they need to live with dignity. Local volunteers, already involved in community support, saw that there were gaps in what was available for people facing sudden hardship.

With the support of residents, local groups and businesses, we opened our charity shop on High Street South. Donated items are sold at affordable prices, and the income helps us provide mobility aids, essential household items and wider support to people who are struggling.

Since then, the charity has continued to grow. More volunteers have joined, new partnerships have been formed, and together we have been able to respond quickly when individuals and families find themselves in difficult situations.

Our mission

Our mission is to support people in Rushden and the surrounding district who are experiencing hardship, so that they can live safely and with dignity.

We do this by providing practical help – such as mobility aids and essential household items – and by working closely with local organisations to respond quickly when people are in need.

Our values
  • Dignity – everyone deserves to feel respected and valued, whatever their circumstances.
  • Respect – we listen, we do not judge, and we treat everyone with kindness.
  • Responsiveness – we act quickly when people or organisations ask for help.
  • Transparency – we are clear about how we use donations and what we can and cannot do.
  • Community – we are rooted in Rushden and the surrounding area, working alongside others for local people.

Rushden and District Community Charity is completely volunteer-led. Everyone involved – from the trustees and shop volunteers to those helping behind the scenes – gives their time to support local people.

Our trustees (or management committee) provide oversight and accountability. They make sure we follow charity regulations, use funds responsibly and stay focused on our mission of supporting people in hardship.

Because we are fully volunteer-run, we are able to say that 100% of our profits from the charity shop go back into local community support. This includes funding mobility aids, essential household items, and practical help for individuals and organisations.

We could not do what we do without the support of local organisations, businesses, faith groups, schools and community volunteers. They donate items, raise funds, share referrals and help us reach people who need support.

We are proud to work in partnership with others across Rushden and the surrounding area. Together, we aim to make sure that help is available when people and families are facing difficult times.

If you are part of a group or organisation that would like to work with us, we would love to hear from you.

If you are struggling and think we might be able to help, please do not hesitate to get in touch. You do not need to know exactly what to ask for – we will listen and talk things through with you.

You can be referred by another organisation or you can contact us yourself. We will always treat your situation with respect and keep your information private.

The best place to start is our Get Help page, where you can see what we can help with and complete a short form if you feel comfortable doing so.
